The creator of A Couple of Cuckoos prepares a vampire romance anime
Hiragi-san’s House of Vampires will have a TV adaptation about a young man who ends up living with a vampire family. What could possibly go wrong?
Getting an adoptive family should be a happy occasion, but probably no one warned Shota Minamoto that his new relatives would have a certain fondness for human blood. It has been officially announced that Hiragi-san’s House of Vampires will get an anime adaptation, based on the manga by Miki Yoshikawa, the acclaimed author of A Couple of Cuckoos and Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches. The announcement came with a first promotional image that clearly shows the intentions of one of its protagonists.

The illustration shows Yukie Hiiragi, the second daughter of the family, approaching Shota’s neck dangerously while both are in a moonlit room. For now, no release date has been confirmed, although it is known that UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS will be in charge of planning and producing the project. Neither have the voice cast members nor the main animation team been revealed.
A vampire family with plenty of love to give
The story follows Shota Minamoto, a high school student who lives in a children’s home after becoming an orphan. His luck seems to change when a wealthy family decides to adopt him and take him to live in a large traditional Japanese residence. His new relatives welcome him with open arms, so the boy begins to feel comfortable in a place he can finally call home.
However, peace doesn’t last long. One night, Shota is attacked by someone who tries to drink his blood, discovering that all members of his new family are vampires. To make matters worse, he will have to live with three beautiful sisters who don’t seem to mind their peculiar diet. The big question is whether they really adopted him to make him part of the family or if they were just looking for something for dinner.
The work combines romantic comedy, family life, and supernatural elements, though with a somewhat darker atmosphere than other works by Yoshikawa. In fact, the author herself commented that she has paid special attention to the contrast between the bright daytime environments and the nighttime scenes of the manga, so she hopes that moonlight lighting will be one of the most striking aspects of the animated adaptation.
It should be noted that Hiragi-san’s House of Vampires, known in Japan as Hiiragi-san no Kyuuketsu Jijou, began as a self-contained story published in 2019. Subsequently, the manga started its serialization in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in October 2021. The work currently has six compiled volumes, while the seventh is scheduled for release in Japan on December 16.
For now, the responsible parties have not shared more details about the adaptation, so we will have to wait to find out when we can see Shota’s misadventures with his new family. Meanwhile, the manga is also available in English through Kodansha’s K Manga service.
Would you dare to live with three beautiful vampire sisters, or would you run away from the mansion as soon as one of them started staring too much at your neck?
