Just this past month, Steam players uncovered that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, the latest fighting game from Arc System Works and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, had been blocked from purchase in over 132 nations, such as the Philippines, Dominican Republic, and Pakistan. The game has since received an update, with several territories (including the ones listed) no longer on the restricted list (source: SteamDB).
Although the exact cause for the ban remains unclear, many speculate it stems from Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) not being accessible in certain regions, much like what occurred with the Steam version of Helldivers 2 in 2024, when the title was briefly removed a few months post-launch. Arrowhead Studios explained that Sony’s initial requirement for mandatory PSN accounts was the obstacle preventing Helldivers 2 from being bought in unsupported regions. Fortunately, Sony reversed its stance, enabling more gamers to engage in their alien-blasting endeavors.
Given that Marvel Tokon showcases numerous characters from Marvel’s celebrated lineup, numerous enthusiasts were excitedly awaiting its debut only to find it unavailable in their locale. Furthermore, the game is scheduled to appear in various fighting game competitions, including EVO Morocco, where it was previously unobtainable.

After feedback and campaigns from supporters (including prominent fighting game enthusiasts), Marvel Tokon has been reinstated in multiple regions. The list of areas still lacking access persists as lengthy (including Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Venezuela), though this might shift in the period preceding release.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is slated to arrive on August 6 for Windows (Steam and Epic Games Store) and PlayStation 5. A playable demo is scheduled for July 24-26 PT.
