Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) has recently updated its financial projections for the fiscal year concluding March 2027, indicating a notable uptick in revenue and a return to profitability.

After a challenging period, the company forecasts a 50.1% year-on-year surge in net sales, alongside operating profit reaching 715 million yen (a 141.4% increase year-over-year), ordinary profit at 906 million yen (101.7% rise year-over-year), and net profit of 718 million yen (116.8% rise year over year), as per GameBiz. This announcement led to a substantial stock recovery on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on August 31, with share prices briefly hitting their ceiling.

The impressive financial performance this year can be largely attributed to the strong sales of NIS’s recent release, Village in the Shade. The farming simulator debuted in Japan on July 30, moving over 100,000 copies in under five days, with physical versions selling out at numerous local retailers. By late August, the title had added another 50k units to its sales. Further growth is anticipated following the worldwide launch of Village in the Shade on October 27.

This development suggests that NIS’s approach to intellectual property is beginning to yield positive results. The company’s substantial financial setbacks in 2025 were a consequence of their choice to move away from contract work for other studios toward creating original titles. NIS indicated that it had exited or reduced certain co-development projects to focus on proprietary content. With several new games released in the past two years and additional releases scheduled for the end of 2026—including GOBBLE in September and Prinny Party: Going Overboard! in December—it will be intriguing to observe how this emphasis on original projects impacts NIS’s overall success.
