Japanese indie creator viv has recently unveiled the Steam store page for their upcoming experimental minimalist visual novel DISK-Y, slated for a November release this year.

DISK-Y follows the narrative of Yuu, a transfer student grappling with psychological struggles. As the nameless protagonist, your role is to guide her through school life and provide emotional support. Players face a pivotal choice: either “merge with” or “reject” her volatile psyche. Though the store page remains somewhat cryptic, it suggests a dark turn, urging players to uncover the hidden truths within the game’s world.

The title showcases a unique PC-98 audio-visual aesthetic, featuring retro pixel art at 320px Γ— 240px resolution and a soundtrack generated through FM synthesis. The gameplay experience is concise, taking roughly 10-15 minutes to complete.

Notably, DISK-Y’s creator Viv is widely recognized for developing the horror adventure game Saihate Station, which currently holds an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam with over 10,000 total reviews. Another project by Viv, This Game is Not Real, generated significant anticipation, amassing over 24,000 Steam followers. However, its Steam release was ultimately canceled for not meeting platform requirements. Fortunately, it remains available for purchase via DLsite and BOOTH.

As of August 23, DISK-Y has garnered over 1,000 Wishlists, and Viv assures that they will ensure the game “meets platform criteria,” noting that this time, the title leans more toward a wholesome experience.

DISK-Y is scheduled to launch on Steam in November 2026, offering support for English, Japanese, Korean, Italian, and Vietnamese languages.
