The Sentai Daishikkaku manga goes on hiatus due to the health of its author
Author Negi Haruba will take a medical break, and the series will return in August.
The relentless manga industry has claimed a new victim this week. Through the pages of the 32nd issue of the acclaimed Weekly Shonen Magazine by Kodansha, it was confirmed that the popular manga Sentai Daishikkaku (known in the West as Go! Go! Loser Ranger!) will go on a temporary hiatus due to the declining health of its creator, renowned author Negi Haruba. Although the news came as a shock to fans following the story’s weekly developments, the editorial team assured that the break will be relatively short and plan to resume serialization sometime in August.

This isn’t the first time fatigue has affected the mangaka’s work pace this year. Back in February, the series already faced a similar interruption, returning mid-March to dive into its tense final storyline. It’s clear that the immense pressure of structuring the story’s climax, combined with the demanding release schedule required by the magazine, physically wore down Haruba, forcing him to step away to prioritize recovery before delivering the grand conclusion of this chaotic universe.

To understand the significance of this title, it’s worth noting that the franchise has dominated popularity charts since its original publication began in February 2021. The twisted premise that completely flips the classic superhero trope—portraying the Divine Dragon Rangers as tyrants craving fame who enslaved invading monsters to force fixed losses in front of audiences—immediately connected with viewers. This massive paper success fueled an outstanding animated adaptation that has already completed two solid seasons broadcast worldwide via the Disney+ catalog, cementing this peculiar private as one of today’s most beloved anti-heroes.
Considering the immense physical and mental toll creators face when trying to close a long story spectacularly, do you think Japanese publishers should implement mandatory breaks before authors enter the final stages of their works?
