Fans of school romances with a musical touch finally have a real reason to celebrate. The giant publisher Kadokawa brightened our day by officially announcing that the popular manga Studio Cabana, created by the talented Agri Uma, will make the long-awaited leap to the small screen. Through a first promotional glimpse, the production committee confirmed that this new animated adaptation will air on Japanese television during 2027.

The narrative of this gem introduces Yukari Maki, a student who values honesty above everything. Her monotonous school life is turned upside down when she becomes interested in Yusuke Kusaka, the classic rebellious boy whom the entire class treats as a dangerous delinquent. By refusing to ignore him, she ends up secretly following him until she discovers that the boy spends his afternoons locked in a music studio singing with a local band, revealing a vulnerable side no one knew. To ensure this moving story comes to life properly, studio JUVENAGE recruited Shinichiro Ushijima (known for directing the heart-wrenching I Want to Eat Your Pancreas) to the director’s chair, backed by scripts from Sawako Hirabayashi and beautiful character designs by Haruka Sagawa.

Unexpected returns and open auditions

Regarding the voice cast, the production left a fairly nostalgic surprise for long-time fans. The well-known actress Sayumi Suzushiro will officially reprise her role as the protagonist, returning to the booth after voicing Yukari in a short promotional video originally released in 2022. On the other hand, the voice of the enigmatic Yusuke Kusaka remains a complete mystery, as producers decided to launch an open audition to find the perfect vocalist who can perform his musical themes flawlessly, even involving the community with a voting system to choose the final candidate.
