The One Piece remake finally reveals duration and release date on Netflix
The long-awaited new adaptation by Wit Studio will cover the first chapters of the story in a seven-episode format without filler.
The era of piracy is about to receive a massive and unprecedented visual upgrade. This Tuesday, Netflix raised global anticipation by revealing a spectacular promotional image for the highly anticipated animated remake The One Piece. This massive reinterpretation of the legendary shonen is scheduled to debut worldwide in February 2027, implementing a release strategy that will shake the industry: the first seven episodes will arrive all at once on the platform.

Rather than dragging the plot with the traditional weekly format, this first season will adapt the first 50 manga chapters (the iconic East Blue saga) at a frantic pace in a compact block of about 300 minutes. It will be nearly five hours of uninterrupted adventure aiming to capture the original magic but with modern dynamism. To achieve this technical feat, Wit Studio has assembled a staff consisting of genuine royalty of Japanese animation:
- Masashi Koizuka taking the director’s chair.
World-renowned for his masterful creative work in the Attack on Titan franchise. - Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda in charge of character design and animation direction.
Impeccable veterans who forged the visual identity of titanic productions like Spy x Family and The First Slam Dunk. - Taku Kishimoto as the head writer.
The mastermind behind the addictive narrative structure of contemporary hits like Haikyuu!! and Ranking of Kings.
Mutual respect for the legacy
George Wada, president of the acclaimed studio, had already hinted that the main goal is to offer a much faster pacing, eliminating the classic filler to match the aesthetic quality of today’s prime-time animes. However, this modernization is being built from a position of deep respect for the foundations laid by Toei Animation over the last quarter century.
Curiously, the original anime is also not lagging in its own rhythmic evolution. Starting in 2026, Toei’s classic series will reduce its immense annual production volume to a maximum of 26 episodes. After the Egghead arc concludes, this drastic reduction in broadcast frequency will allow for adapting the events of Elbaph Island with superior animation quality and a narrative pace much truer to the original author’s pen, ensuring the best possible experience on both fronts of the franchise.
Do you think a marathon format of 300 minutes is the definitive way to revive the nostalgia of the crew’s first steps in the East Blue?
