The Ramparts of Ice anime announces production of its second season
Mankyuu and Studio KAI continue adapting the successful romance drama by Kōcha Agasawa this autumn.
We were just processing the end of the first part when the production committee confirmed the news. Just as the fourteenth episode finished airing, the animated adaptation of The Ramparts of Ice (Koori no Jyoheki) officially announced that its second season will premiere on Japanese television next October 1st. It seems the Thursdays of the upcoming autumn season will be exclusively for experiencing the emotional barriers of Koyuki Hikawa.

Studio KAI keeps the winning formula intact
To ensure this youth drama maintains its momentum, the core technical team returns without changes. Direction remains in the capable hands of Mankyū at Studio KAI, while scripts continue under the strict supervision of Yasuhiro Nakanishi.
In visual and audio production, the series retains its original essence. Miki Ogino continues contributing her talent to character design, ensuring expressive characters, all wrapped in the musical atmosphere composed by the duo of Kanade Sakuma and Natsumi Tabuchi. It’s clear that producers, led by Hirokazu Shiba, didn’t want to risk the product and bet on technical stability for this new stage.

A triumphant leap from vertical format
It’s worth noting that this franchise didn’t follow the path of a traditional manga. The original story began as a webtoon illustrated by Kōcha Agasawa, published exclusively digitally between January 2020 and April 2022. Its popularity was so overwhelming that publisher Shueisha saw a goldmine and decided to reorganize all panels for physical printing, concluding with its fourteenth compiled volume just in February 2025. The impact of this school romance was so great that the work made it into the prestigious Kono Manga ga Sugoi! ranking of 2024, proving its narrative goes far beyond a simple high school cliché.
