Surviving an otome game in extreme mode has never been more popular. The platform Piccoma thrilled the community by officially confirming that the popular webtoon Villains Are Destined to Die (Akuyaku no Ending wa Shi nomi) will get its own animated adaptation for television. The big announcement came with bittersweet news for readers, as the creators also confirmed the definitive end of the main story.

The plot immerses us in the classic reincarnation fantasy, but with an absurdly high difficulty level. The protagonist wakes up inside her favorite otome game trapped in the body of Penelope Eckhart, the waifu villain everyone hates in hard mode. While playing as the heroine earns you the easy love of male characters, being the villain means any misstep leads irrevocably to death by her brothers, the crown prince, or any everyday object. Armed only with her game knowledge, Penelope must win the affection of these dangerous men to find a way to survive.

The original work, written by Gwon Gyeoeul and illustrated masterfully by SUOL, debuted in 2020 and quickly became one of the most read titles in South Korea via Kakao Page. The manhwa reached impressive figures of over fourteen million views, concluding its main plot in chapter 214 last July. However, fans shouldn’t be sad about the print’s conclusion, as the editorial team plans to release an eagerly awaited spin-off after a well-deserved break.
With more South Korean stories about reincarnated villains successfully consolidating within the anime industry, do you think Penelope Eckhart’s survival battles will become the new phenomenon when it finally hits the small screen?
