Chainsmoker Cat anime releases main trailer with opening and ending
Bibury Animation brings the most chaotic summer comedy featuring a kitten that can’t stop smoking.
A smoking-addicted kitten, an apartment full of cigarette butts and zero intention to change. If that sounds like the most honest anime premise of summer, it probably is. Chainsmoker Cat (Yanineko) has just released its main trailer confirming its premiere on July 2, 2026, and revealed the musical themes that will accompany each episode of this comedy about the chaotic life of Yani Neko and her friends.
The main trailer is packed with the messy daily situations that manga readers already know well, now with animation and moving voices. Rock band Wasureranneyo handles the opening titled “Nanmonee”, while Necry Talkie provides the ending with “Kemuri to Blue” —roughly translating to “Smoke and Blue”—, a name that fits the protagonist’s lifestyle perfectly. Both songs can be heard in the trailer over scenes showing the kittens’ daily lives and surroundings.
Production team
The production is handled by Bibury Animation, with Taku Kimura directing and Takashi Aoshima writing scripts to maintain the manga’s light, daily humor. Character design is by Riki Matsuura, and music is by Keiichi Suzuki. Joining the confirmed team are art directors Yukiko Maruyama and Shotaro Yoshino from Atelier Musa, color design by Yuiha Ota, photography direction by Hisashi Yonezawa, editing by Mutsumi Takemiya, and sound direction by Takatoshi Hamano.

About Chainsmoker Cat
Chainsmoker Cat is a manga by Nyan Nyan Factory published in Kodansha’s Young Magazine and is up to its twelfth compiled volume, released on May 20. The story follows Yani, a kitten living in a world where humans and kittens coexist, but whose apartment is a complete mess of cigarette butts and ash. Every time she tries to quit smoking, the craving wins in record time. The series’ charm isn’t whether Yani succeeds or not, but watching her and her equally carefree friends navigate the small daily chaos with an honesty few comedies dare to have.
