Square Enix recently revealed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the eagerly awaited conclusion to the remake trilogy, is set to launch in the spring of 2027. Building upon FFVII Rebirth, this latest installment will place a stronger and more intentional focus on player choices, influencing both the sequence of game progression and the narrative journey. While FFVII Revelation will feature a single ending, it will incorporate ample branching content to ensure each playthrough offers a unique experience, making it impossible to uncover everything in a single run, as director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared

Intriguingly, during a recent conversation with 4Gamer, Hamaguchi expressed that he views enhanced player agency and the opportunity for personalized playthroughs as essential features that games must provide in today’s market, linking this to the widespread popularity of gaming streams. “One aspect RPGs like Final Fantasy must be mindful of today is the chance that people might simply watch a stream and feel content without ever playing the game themselves. This poses a challenge for the work itself, or rather, it’s not something game creators can fully endorse,” he remarks.

Hamaguchi explicitly states that he is not dismissing streaming, but notes that if a game’s appeal is confined to its story progression, players might find it more entertaining to simply watch others play, which can ultimately impact the game’s audience. Instead, he suggests, “if watching a stream prompts viewers to think What would I do in that scenario? or How would I explore that?, then hopefully they’ll be motivated to experience it firsthand.” Believing that entertainment should adapt to current trends rather than adhering rigidly to past methods, Hamaguchi mentions that he’s been pushing himself in this direction throughout FFVII Remake, Rebirth, and now Revelation.

On a related note, “Choices” is also one of FFVII Revelation’s central thematic elements. In keeping with its role as the trilogy’s conclusion and the story that lies ahead for the characters, the game will shift from the sense of “security” present in FFVII Rebirth to place players under “tension” as they make critical decisions.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is slated for release in Spring 2027 across PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox on PC), Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X❘S.
