It’s been a little over a year since Pico Games first revealed Abyss Kitchen, a 2D survival action game centered around cooking, ingredient gathering, and delicious recipes. The Steam page has since been refreshed, with July 24 now listed as the official release date.
In Abyss Kitchen, players take on the role of Lop, the chef of an adventurer’s party. While your companions handle the combat, you’ll navigate the battlefield, dodge incoming attacks, and gather fresh ingredients for your culinary creations.

Using these ingredients, you can whip up over 40 different dishes, each offering unique buffs such as enhanced attack strength and poison removal. Beyond the effects, it’s important to consider each party member’s taste preferences.
You also have the ability to prepare specific meals and feed them to your allies mid-battle. During our BitSummit demo, we discovered that giving a max-level companion a hamburger lets them unleash their special abilities. Although Lop typically stays out of direct combat, you can still assist your team with a crossbow.

Abyss Kitchen will launch with 16 stages in its main story, along with several minigames for gathering resources. Outside of farming ingredients, cooking, and combat, you can deepen the bonds between Lop and her companions, triggering special events based on your relationship levels. With its charming hand-drawn character designs and realistic food visuals, the game clearly knows what it does best.
Abyss Kitchen is scheduled to release on July 24 for Windows via Steam. A free demo is also available for players to try.
