Square Enix has revealed its financial outcomes for the initial quarter of the fiscal year concluding March 2027 (source: GameBiz). The company reported substantial increases in revenue and all profit indicators, with operating profit surging by 88.6% compared to the previous year.
This robust performance was largely attributed to Square Enix’s digital entertainment (video game) division, which experienced a 51.8% rise in revenue and a 91.8% jump in operating profit year-over-year. The company noted that every segment of its gaming operations—HD games, MMOs, and mobile/PC—demonstrated enhanced results, with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales serving as consistent performers in the console market.
Furthermore, Square Enix’s back catalog of titles (games from prior fiscal years) also enjoyed a sales uptick compared to the preceding year, adding to the company’s overall revenue and operating profit.
In the MMO/mobile/browser segment, Final Fantasy XIV recorded higher revenue and player engagement, though profit margins saw only modest growth due to expenditures tied to the game’s forthcoming expansion. The live-service games Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest Smash/Grow were cited as significant contributors to both revenue and earnings.
