D3 Publisher revealed on August 25 that Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World is slated for a PlayStation 5 exclusive release in 2027. Serving as an enhanced iteration of Earth Defense Force 6 (which debuted on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2022 for Japan and 2024 worldwide), this version boasts improved visuals, heightened enemy density, weapon customization options, and the introduction of a brand-new enemy species.
The PS5-specific optimizations for Earth Defense Force 6.2 have enabled the development team to refine the graphics and nearly double the number of onscreen enemies compared to Earth Defense Force 6. Alongside the enemies from the original game and its downloadable content, a novel species resembling colossal mushrooms will debut in the title. Additionally, over half of the original missions have undergone restructuring and rebalancing.

To enhance combat engagement, a weapon customization system has been integrated. Players can acquire weapon enhancements from vanquished foes, allowing for tailored loadouts that align with preferred playstyles.

Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World marks the second installment in the franchise to adopt a decimal in its title, following 2015βs Earth Defense Force 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair. That title, an enhanced version of Earth Defense Force 2025, introduced gameplay refinements and new narrative elements absent in the original. While unconfirmed, Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World may continue this tradition of decimal-numbered sequels.
Earth Defense Force 6.2: Invaders from Another World is scheduled for a 2027 PlayStation 5 debut. A playable demo of the game will also be available at the Tokyo Game Show 2026.
