Update: This article previously stated that “the developers claimed the game was 99% complete,” but SEGA has since confirmed that this was a result of a translation error during the live event. The developers actually intended to say they cannot discuss 99% of the game’s features at this time. The headline and main text have been updated accordingly.

SEGA hosted a special “Funtime SHOW” presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2026, which included a segment focused on Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, a new zombie action title from Dragami Games.

Set to release in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Back2Back serves as the latest installment in the Lollipop Chainsaw franchise, following the original 2012 zombie action game and its 2024 remastered version, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP. In Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, Juliet returns as the lead character, brandishing her chainsaw to decimate countless zombies. She will don a fresh outfit and is rumored to be even more formidable than before. Juliet’s boyfriend Nick also reappears, retaining his signature severed head appearance.

The development of the game is a joint effort between Dragami Games, NADA HOLDINGS, a Taiwanese IP investment and development firm, and JP UNIVERSE, a development studio led by Hajime Tabata, who previously worked on the Final Fantasy series and other Square Enix projects. Masahiro Yuki, the scenario writer for the original Lollipop Chainsaw, and character designer NekoshowguN are also contributing to the project.

During the Tokyo Game Show 2026 presentation, Dragami Games President and CEO Shohei Sato was joined by NADA HOLDINGS founder and CEO Joe Teng, JP UNIVERSE’s Hajime Tabata, and development director Yasuaki Nasu to discuss the game’s development.

The team disclosed that the Back2Back project was initiated by NADA HOLDINGS. Joe Teng, a self-proclaimed fan of Lollipop Chainsaw, approached Dragami Games in 2022 following the announcement of the Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP remaster, proposing a sequel. This led to the project’s inception.

While specific gameplay details remain undisclosed, the event featured gameplay footage rendered in Unreal Engine and highlighted three “core pillars” of the project. The first is “characters,” with the developers aiming to elevate protagonist Juliet from a “star to a superstar” among the zombie hordes. They also noted their efforts to give her a universally appealing appearance to attract new players.

The second pillar is the game’s “cute and chaotic world.” The original game blended pop, cute, kitschy, and stylish elements against a horror backdrop. The sequel will expand on this concept, aiming for an even more “over-the-top” experience. The developers also hinted at expanding the world introduced in the first game. The final pillar is “thrilling action,” with the team focusing on delivering satisfying and intuitive combat while ensuring Juliet remains visually appealing during fights.

The developers confirmed they have yet to reveal 99% of the game’s content. A trailer was showcased at the event, though the footage was intentionally toned down. The developers stated they plan to gradually unveil more of the game’s “extreme” aspects moving forward.

Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back is slated for a 2027 release on PS5.
