To mark the 22nd anniversary of Graffiti Kingdom, Yuichi Tanzawa, a developer who contributed to the 2004 action RPG, shared a post on X hinting at the potential for a third game in the series.

Graffiti Kingdom, the follow-up to 2002’s Magic Pengel: The Quest For Color on PlayStation2, centers on drawing and crafting custom monsters for combat. Despite gaining a solid fanbase in Japan, the franchise never progressed to a third installment.

Tanzawa revealed in his post that he has submitted multiple proposals for a Graffiti Kingdom sequel over the last two decades, yet none have been approved. “I’m more eager than anyone to create a new Graffiti Kingdom,” he stated. “There were moments when the project nearly got the green light, but ultimately, we lacked the push to make it happen. That’s why, regrettably, Graffiti Kingdom 3 hasn’t arrived in 22 years.”

After another project was shelved in early 2026, and inspired by his indie developer peers, Tanzawa decided to take matters into his own hands by developing a spiritual successor to Graffiti Kingdom. He described it as a game “for his personal enjoyment” and hasn’t decided on its future—whether it will see an official release or remain a private endeavor for him and his friends. Tanzawa even mused about potentially completing the game in his lifetime and releasing it for free posthumously.

Through a series of X posts this month, Tanzawa showcased what appears to be prototype footage of the monster creation feature in his upcoming game. While the game’s release status and timeline remain uncertain, Tanzawa plans to share frequent updates on his X account, offering a glimpse into his development journey.
