Building a business you love can take decades of daily effort, but a few minutes of chaos can destroy it all. Thatβs the sad reality a French merchant faced as he watched helplessly while a horde of looters destroyed and emptied his specialty anime and manga shop, a project he dedicated nearly 30 years to.
The incident was recorded by the shopβs security cameras on Saturday, October 17th around 6 PM. The footage shows the store, filled with shelves of figures, manga volumes, collectibles, and a large Hatsune Miku poster on the wall, suddenly invaded by dozens of hooded and masked individuals. In seconds, the looters started pulling merchandise from displays, throwing boxes to the floor, and grabbing everything within reach.
The owner explained he was present during the robbery but couldnβt intervene or defend his property due to the overwhelming number of attackers. With deep sadness, the merchant described the shop as the work of his life, watching years of inventory and unique pieces disappear in one night without being able to stop it.

This tragic event occurred amid massive protests in several French cities against rising living costs. While many marches were peaceful, violence erupted in Parisβs commercial districts, where vandals forced metal shutters and broke windows to loot independent stores. According to official reports, over 3,000 businesses were affected or robbed, causing millions in losses and severely impacting small entertainment and collectibles shops.
Specialty Japanese pop culture stores in Europe are typically small independent businesses run by enthusiasts who have spent decades importing exclusive merchandise, figures, and printed works. These shops not only serve as retail points but also as community hubs for local manga and anime fans, making their loss devastating both economically and culturally.
