If you thought the slice-of-life genre had shown it all, this comedy is ready to break any traditional mold. Aniplex officially confirmed that the manga Null Meta (Nurumeta) will make the leap to television with its own anime adaptation scheduled to premiere sometime in 2027.

The news started making waves a few days ago when the producer released a brief teaser showing only the letters “NLMT,” sparking curiosity among fans before revealing the first promotional image. The big surprise of the announcement lies in the project’s direction, which will be handled by Kai Ikarashi, known for his notable work on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. This release will mark the first time Ikarashi takes full direction of a television anime series.
The creative team behind the scenes is completed with Tatsuya Takahashi in script supervision and writing, while Shin Ogasawara will handle character design. Animation will be handled by studio Soigne, a production house that previously demonstrated its talent in adapting titles like mono and Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk.
The story follows the absurd routine of four high school girls led by Kurumi, an extremely clumsy and dimwitted android. Alongside her are Chiaki, her guardian who is a bit crazy; Sakina, a quiet young woman who enjoys any nonsense; and Shiyuki, the only sane person in the group. Amidst android modifications, absurd pampering, and nonsensical daily chats, the work offers a fresh and surreal perspective within the four-panel format.

Null Meta is a four-panel comedy written and illustrated by Kokamumo. The work originally began as an independently published web series before moving to official serialization in the pages of Houbunsha’s Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in early 2020, accumulating six compiled volumes in the Japanese market.
The author himself celebrated the news, thanking his readers for their constant support and expressing excitement to see the funny antics of his characters come to life on screen. Director Kai Ikarashi, meanwhile, promised to give his all to deliver an animated experience that is highly entertaining for all viewers.
