Absurd backlash: Kamiina Botan author silences Yuri haters

If you thought shonen fans were intense, you haven’t met yuri purists. The community can be fiercely protective of its favorite stories, and the manga creator of Kamiina Botan just found that out the hard way. What started as a quiet evening browsing online ended in a massive backlash simply because the author decided to show appreciation for illustrations that broke the sacred rules of the genre.

The internet police strikes again

The chaos began when users noticed the artist’s unusual activity on Pixiv. It turns out the mangaka was consuming and interacting with adult fanarts created by their own followers. The issue? This explicit content didn’t fit the Girls Love category. Seeing the author enjoy material that wasn’t about classic girl romance or explored sapphic relationships drove several readers mad. They started accusing him of betraying the work’s essence and diluting the franchise’s identity with personal tastes outside his desk.

A reality check and plenty of freedom

Confronted with this online tantrum, the author had to step in to calm things down, but did so in the most straightforward way possible. In a very direct message, he confirmed the original story has always been and will remain categorized as GL. Basically, he told them his work is one thing and his internet likes are another. This controversy sparked a huge debate in the otaku community about creative freedom and the right to privacy. Many argue that artists can consume whatever they want without it affecting their main work’s canon, while the most offended still demand creators stay strictly loyal to the niche that supports them.

Seeing how people lose their minds over the likes an artist gives on their personal account, do you think fans are crossing the line by demanding absolute purity from creators, or is it understandable that they get upset seeing them consume content that contradicts their own series?
