Anime studio Silver Link has disclosed an operating deficit of 271 million JPY (approximately $1.7 million USD) for the fiscal year concluding March 2026 (source: Gamebiz). Although the deficit has not expanded markedly compared to the preceding fiscal year, this marks the studio’s third consecutive year of financial losses.

Established in 2007, Silver Link is an anime production house affiliated with the Asahi Broadcasting Group and has produced numerous adaptations of manga and light novels, as well as OVAs. Among its most acclaimed works are WataMote, Kokoro Connect and Strike the Blood, alongside the recently released Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!

Despite Silver Link’s latest financial reports indicating a significant rise in revenue, up by 32.1% year-on-year, the studio’s operating losses persist. The precise reasons for Silver Link’s current state remain unclear, but the phenomenon of “increasing revenue coupled with narrowing profit margins” has become a growing concern across Japan’s anime sector (according to research company Teikoku Databank), often linked to extended production timelines and scarcities of skilled personnel.

Just recently, Studio KAI – recognized for the second and third seasons of the Umamusume: Pretty Derby TV anime series – declared insolvency due to a $3.54 million shortfall.
