Independent studio PINIX has made available a Steam demo for their upcoming soulslike action game Die Deep. This project puts a strong emphasis on combat, deliberately omitting map exploration or puzzle elements to let players fully immerse themselves in intense battles against enemies. The complete version is slated for release in Q4 of 2026.

In Die Deep, players engage in combat against creatures within the Abyss – a realm where everything is consumed, and all ambitions crumble to dust. The game is structured around multiple stages, each featuring waves of enemies that culminate in a boss fight. A distinctive aspect is that the arena’s environment dynamically alters between each wave of foes.

Players have the option to select from two distinct characters: the one-eyed warrior Gore and the dual-blade specialist Xeta. Gore employs a sword and shield combination, enabling him to block and deflect enemy strikes. Conversely, the nimble Xeta utilizes dual blades, as her name implies. She lacks defensive capabilities, but each successful hit immediately refreshes her dash ability’s cooldown, making an aggressive fighting style essential for avoiding enemy assaults.

Various enemy types bring unique melee, ranged, and area-of-effect attacks to the table. The direction, range, and timing of these attacks are projected onto the floor in advance, requiring players to carefully observe enemy patterns and identify optimal moments to counterattack.

Successfully clearing enemy waves rewards players with a choice among three randomly generated upgrades. These enhancements can raise maximum health or attack power, boost health regeneration, or accelerate MP recovery, which is necessary for healing and activating active skills (MP gradually accumulates as players strike enemies).

Players can also acquire charms by defeating bosses and advancing through the game. These function as passive and active abilities that can be slotted into character slots and utilized during stages. Some increase your attributes, while others offer additional offensive maneuvers.

The newly launched demo of Die Deep includes the game’s tutorial and initial stage. It provides an introduction to the game’s fundamental mechanics, with both playable characters accessible. Triumphing over the demo’s boss unlocks a high-difficulty challenge mode featuring exceptionally powerful boss-class enemies designed to test players repeatedly until mastery is achieved.

Taiwan-based development team PINIX previously launched the roguelike deckbuilding strategy game Alina of the Arena in 2022, which currently boasts a “Very Positive” rating on Steam based on over 1k reviews. According to the studio, the combat system of Die Deep finds its roots in Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight: Silksong. Specifically, the developers mention their intention to replicate the intense, back-to-back challenging combat experienced in the former’s Colosseum of Fools and Godhome regions.

Die Deep is set to debut on PC (Steam) in Q4 of 2026, with the free demo available starting today.
