Appearing in front of a camera —or behind an animated avatar— when starting in internet content can be a tough experience. However, independent VTuber Amane Uruha learned the hard way how quickly social media can turn against you, after a clip from her stream went viral where she lamented having only 19 viewers connected live.

The incident occurred during a free stream in late September 2026, shortly after her official debut. In the widely shared clip from September 28, Uruha is heard joking that the conversation she was having deserved at least 300 people listening, adding that it was hard to see that only 19 people remained in the chat, a number that even dropped to 16 during the stream. By October 1, various headlines cut her words, labeling them as a dismissive complaint toward her initial audience.

The video’s spread sparked intense online debate. On one hand, many users criticized her attitude, pointing out that referring dismissively to 19 viewers is disrespectful to those who decided to support her from day one. On the other hand, several creators defended her, arguing that having nearly 20 simultaneous viewers on a new, independent channel without an agency is a significant number, reminding others that most independent streamers often broadcast to empty rooms in their first weeks.
