FuRyu, the developer behind the upcoming Calisto Protocol, has unveiled a fresh project titled ANOMALITH, scheduled for a release on October 29 across PC (Steam), PS5, and the Nintendo Switch 2. While FuRyu is recognized for its JRPG offerings, this new title marks a bold foray into the TPS (Third-Person Shooter) genre.

ANOMALITH is a survival horror shooter set in an alternate Japan where the Showa era persists, creating a nostalgic yet unsettling atmosphere. Across this timeline, mysterious “Anomaly Zones” begin to manifest as unforeseen natural disasters. When her friend vanishes inside one such zone, the protagonist, Reona Minazuki, joins a government-sanctioned group called the Anomaly Zone Countermeasures Office as a “Diver.” On her maiden dive, Reona discovers unique abilities while her comrades succumb to the anomalies. As the only survivor, she delves into the depths of these zones, seeking her missing friend, the source of the Anomaly Zones, and the truth about her newfound powers.
The game world is crafted from liminal spaces and inspired by the eerie Backrooms phenomenon, aiming to evoke a sense of chilling unease rather than traditional horror, according to producer Kidokoro Gai. The gameplay loop centers on entering Anomaly Zones for exploration and combat, then returning to base. Players will gather ammunition and Anomalous Objects—key resources for crafting and enhancing weapons before subsequent missions.

Combat is driven by third-person gunplay, featuring a UI and UX that aligns with genre standards. Reona’s distinctive Anomalization Skills add tactical layers, enabling techniques like parrying, homing missiles, decoys, and other supportive maneuvers. Certain abilities are tailored to help players break free when overwhelmed. The producer emphasizes the importance of inventory management, urging players to carefully decide which items to retain and which to discard.
As enemies are defeated and Anomalous Objects are gathered, the investigation report is updated with fresh details, progressively uncovering the game’s lore.
ANOMALITH also supports extensive customization for weapons and outfits, including optional costumes that alter appearance without affecting performance.

The development team behind FuRyu’s new TPS boasts notable talent, including bishojo game writer and novelist Romeo Tanaka handling the scenario, and Yuka Kitamura, composer for Elden Ring and Dark Souls III, crafting the soundtrack. Character designs are courtesy of dark fantasy illustrator MON.
ANOMALITH is slated for release on October 29 for PC (Steam), PS5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
