Wright Flyer Studios is set to launch the command-based time-travel JRPG Another Eden Begins on September 17 for PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. This forthcoming game serves as a complete rebuild of “Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space,” a live-service mobile RPG that has been thriving since its 2017 debut.
Reimagined from the ground up with a revamped gameplay loop and devoid of gacha mechanics, the new Another Eden Begins is crafted as a self-contained, one-time-purchase experience. This approach aims to extend the Another Eden intellectual property into the console RPG sphere while ensuring the game remains accessible regardless of future live-service outcomes.
Notably, Another Eden Begins isn’t the sole Japanese mobile RPG undertaking such a transformation. Recent examples include Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent evolving into Octopath Traveler 0, and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius reimagining itself as the upcoming Final Fantasy Resonance.
In an interview, producer Shinnosuke Hirasawa, who oversees both the original Another Eden and its console counterpart, revealed he wasn’t taken aback by other studios pursuing similar ventures. The announcement of Octopath Traveler 0 coincided with the development of Another Eden Begins, and Hirasawa viewed the parallel decisions as “perfectly logical,” rather than a cause for concern about overlapping concepts.
“Live-service games inherently face the risk of becoming unplayable once support ends. Additionally, long-running titles often experience diminishing development scope over time,” Hirasawa explained, pointing to market conditions that have pushed the genre toward a perceived “ceiling.”
Acknowledging these challenges, Hirasawa expressed enthusiasm for initiatives like Octopath Traveler 0 and FF Resonance, remarking, “Yes, more of these please!” He further elaborated:
“I believe creators take pride in their work, and it’s wonderful when live-service titles are preserved in a format that allows them to endure and continue receiving appreciation. This is beneficial for the gaming medium as a whole, so I hope to see many more projects like this in the future.”
Another Eden Begins will debut on September 17 for PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A demo is available on both platforms.
