Game Freak recently unveiled their latest project, Beast of Reincarnation. The post-apocalyptic action RPG quickly drew attention, hitting over 15k concurrent players on Steam, yet its reception has been mixed due to several gameplay and performance-related concerns.

In a conversation with 4Gamer, held after Beast of Reincarnation’s launch but before the v1.0.7 update, game director Kota Furushima discussed the title’s design and player feedback. When asked about the initial responses, he stated, “I genuinely believe there are aspects of the game that demand our focused improvement. I deeply apologize that certain elements haven’t delivered a fully satisfying experience.”

Conversely, Furushima highlighted parts of Beast of Reincarnation that met expectations, especially the combat system involving teamwork with Koo. “I feel the dynamic of taking down foes alongside your partner has been positively received, and we’ve also gathered favorable comments about the game’s overall ambiance. I believe the distinctive post-apocalyptic atmosphere is striking a chord with many players,” he explained.

Nonetheless, the director acknowledges that the game requires further refinement and assures that his team is committed to significant enhancements. The first major patch for Beast of Reincarnation, rolled out on August 10 in response to player input, tackled camera problems, adjusted parry timing, and balanced enemy encounters, among other improvements. Looking ahead, the developers intend to refine story pacing and introduce a highly requested cutscene skip feature, alongside implementing frame generation technologies like DLSS 4/4.5 (L/M) and FSR4.

On the topic of difficulty, another point of contention for some players, Furushima shared with 4Gamer that his goal wasn’t merely to make Beast of Reincarnation challenging, but to ensure players fully utilize Koo and engage with the cooperative combat mechanics. Although the game doesn’t explicitly instruct players to team up with Koo, the difficulty is designed to encourage intuitive cooperation rather than relying solely on Emma’s sword and parrying.

While the timing for Beast of Reincarnation’s next update remains unannounced, the developers have affirmed their commitment to delivering a series of patches addressing player feedback. The game is accessible on PC (Steam/Microsoft Store), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
