Eleven years have passed since BlazBlue: Central Fiction debuted in Japanese arcades, and nine years since the game’s last downloadable character, Jubei, was introduced. The roster has remained unchanged for quite some time, making it quite unexpected that Arc System Works is preparing to add a new playable fighter to the game, as revealed during their June 2026 showcase.
It’s worth noting that this was merely an announcement for an upcoming reveal. The official introduction of the new character is set to take place before the BlazBlue: Central Fiction Top 8 Finals at EVO 2026 in Las Vegas this weekend. Update producer Riku Ozawa shared that the development of the new fighter was only recently finalized, which explains the absence of gameplay footage in the teaser. Although we’ll have to wait until this weekend to uncover the fighter’s identity, Ozawa did suggest that they have made appearances in past BlazBlue titles.
Unfortunately, despite BlazBlue: Central Fiction being available on multiple platforms, the Japanese version of the teaser explicitly states that the new character will only be added to the PlayStation 4 and Steam versions of the game.
