The Japanese indie visual novel 5omeday places the fate of a character squarely in your hands. The title recently hit a milestone of 10,000 copies sold and is now offering a 20% discount on Steam to celebrate the achievement.
Developed by Japanese studio Indigo Ingots in collaboration with Starlit Chronicles Studio, 5omeday (known as Itsuka no Yoru domestically) casts you as a prison guard overseeing a dragon girl named Mira over five days before her scheduled execution. Should you suspect Mira of any mischievous behavior or potential harm, you have the option to activate a large red button at your disposal, terminating her life prematurely.
The red button can be pressed at any moment, even during dialogue, which not only comes across as deeply disrespectful to Mira but also results in her immediate demise.
Each playthrough of 5omeday typically lasts about five minutes. Your decisions, along with your choice of whether and when to press the button, shape the narrative and lead to one of 13 possible endings. You might opt to be a cruel guard, breaking Mira’s horns and making her final days unbearable. Alternatively, you could be a compassionate guard, attentively listening to her story and fulfilling her requests. Or you might adapt to each situation, making choices based on the circumstances at hand.
The Steam edition of 5omeday serves as a remake of the free Unityroom game that debuted in October 2023, crafted by the same creative team. This enhanced version introduces new endings complete with background music, still images, and illustrations, as well as a fully-voiced Mira, portrayed by Japanese virtual voice actress Nako Natsuki. Additional features include Steam achievements, a Gallery mode, and support for English, traditional Chinese, and simplified Chinese. Notably, the game avoids depicting blood, violence, or sexual content despite its somber themes.
