StoryNote’s game label Lorebard has revealed that its inaugural title, Pain Pain Go Away!, is scheduled to launch on May 20 for PC via Steam.

Directed by Jin Fujisawa, who previously led development on Dragon Quest IX and Dragon Quest X, Pain Pain Go Away! is a psychological typing visual novel where players must “type away” the trauma of troubled children. Assuming the role of a counselor at a small private clinic, you’ll utilize the advanced therapy device known as P2GA to explore your patients’ subconscious minds and uncover the origins of their emotional suffering.

The narrative begins when a girl named Kokoromi arrives at your clinic, confessing to the murder of her own mother. As you delve into her innermost thoughts, the truth gradually emerges, hinting that Kokoromi’s story holds deeper complexities than initially apparent.

Gameplay combines visual-novel storytelling with typing mechanics. The typing segments demand not just speed and precision, but also deductive reasoning tied to the game’s underlying mysteries. Multiple difficulty settings cater to players of all skill levels, from novices to seasoned typists.

Pain Pain Go Away! represents Fujisawa’s latest project following his retirement announcement, with the director treating it as his final game. “I’ve spent 30 years in the game industry, working on numerous large-scale projects, but I lacked experience with smaller games,” Fujisawa explained. “I had to relearn everything from the ground up, which was incredibly challenging. Still, I believe I’ve created something interesting, and I’m quite pleased with the outcome. I wanted to leave behind something meaningful, as if it were my last game, despite my retirement from directing.”

Pain Pain Go Away! will release on May 20 for PC (Steam). A free demo is available now.
