With the upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Dark Arisen DLC introducing a brand-new region alongside numerous gameplay enhancements, it’s clear that the development team paid close attention to player feedback from the original game. In a discussion with Famitsu, director Kento Kinoshita and producers Naoto Oyama and Yoshiaki Hirabayashi shared insights on how fan suggestions from Japan and other regions diverged significantly.

Hirabayashi noted that when analyzing player data, the feedback from Japan and Western countries was “completely opposite.” This revelation provided valuable lessons on how cultural nuances influence gameplay preferences.

The most contrasting viewpoints emerged regarding some of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s distinctive gameplay challenges. Oyama explained that players in Japan and Asia frequently highlighted what they considered “inconveniences,” whereas those in Europe and North America often embraced these same elements as “friction” that added depth to the experience. While the developers didn’t specify particular examples, they earlier mentioned traveling on foot and Dragonsplague as instances of such gameplay elements.

Given the disparity in expectations, the development team emphasized their approach to balance both perspectives when crafting Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, ensuring they don’t alienate players from either side.

Kinoshita pointed to the new equipment transmog feature in the DLC as a case in point. When it debuted in Dragon’s Dogma Online, it sparked significant debate among players. Consequently, Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen allows players to alter their outfit appearances while also giving those who prefer not to the option to disable cosmetic displays. Furthermore, the DLC’s Hard Mode, a feature highly requested by the community, will be available from day one.

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is set to launch on October 9 for Windows (Steam), Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X❘S.
