Aniplex revealed on August 31 that it will now handle the publishing duties for Fate/Extra Record, a dungeon crawler crafted by Type-Moon Studio BB (Notes Co. Ltd.).
Fate/Extra Record serves as a remake of Type-Moon’s dungeon crawler RPG Fate/Extra, originally launched for PlayStation Portable back in 2010. The project was first unveiled in 2020 and was initially set to debut in 2025. However, the release date was pushed to the following year and subsequently delayed once more after its original publisher, Bandai Namco Entertainment, opted out of the role in March 2026.
Despite Bandai Namco Entertainment’s departure from the publishing agreement, the game’s development remained ongoing. With Aniplex now onboard as the new publisher, it appears that a fresh release window for the title could be announced in the near future.
As of August 31, Fate/Extra Record now features a new official website and X account, both now overseen by Aniplex. The previous social media handles for the game are set to be discontinued on September 7. Further details regarding the game are slated to be shared the month after.
Moreover, Notes has announced on its official website that it has implemented some adjustments to the organizational structure of the development team and Type-Moon Studio BB.
A significant development is that director Niino Kazuya, who also helmed the original Fate/Extra in 2010, will be stepping away from the project. He is resigning from his directorial position and departing from Type-Moon Studio BB entirely. As per his request, he will not receive credit for his work on the game upon its release.
On his X profile, Niino offered an apology to fans for “falling short in his duties as a director,” but expressed confidence that the remaining development team will successfully deliver a high-quality game.
Fate/Extra Record is currently in development for PC (Steam), PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
