From YouTube to Anime: IShowSpeed to Star in His Own Animated Series

Think IShowSpeed‘s madness couldn’t go further? Buckle up because the internet’s most chaotic streamer has just made the definitive leap into otaku culture. It’s now confirmed that Darren Jason Watkins Jr. will star in his own anime-style series, where he’ll not only lend his voice but also inject all that explosive and viral energy that characterizes him into an animated character tailored to him.

A Production Team with One Piece Flavor

If the idea of a Speed anime sounds like an internet meme, wait until you meet the team behind the curtain. The project is being written by none other than Matt Owens, the creative who served as co-showrunner for the first two seasons of the acclaimed One Piece live-action. Owens, who had taken a mental health break, returns to the ring as a producer alongside Brian Robbins from Big Shot Pictures and filmmaker Harmony Korine. Having a veteran of the pirate franchise in charge of the script tells us this production is much more serious than it appears.

The Otaku Dream of a Global Streamer

It’s no secret in the gaming community that IShowSpeed is a die-hard anime fan, especially of Eiichiro Oda‘s legendary work. Just a month ago, the 21-year-old (who already boasts over 52 million subscribers and two Streamer of the Year awards) broke the internet by announcing a real-life underwater treasure hunt, directly inspired by the ultimate mystery of One Piece. When confirming this new animated project, he confessed through a statement that having his own series is literally “a dream come true.”

For now, the production company is keeping the plot under lock and key, and there’s still no premiere date on the horizon. However, mixing Speed’s global reach, memes, and hyperactive personality with the narrative of the anime industry promises to be one of the wildest and most entertaining experiments in the history of digital content creation.
