During a recent episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, actor Noah Centineo, who is set to star in the live-action Gundam series, shared further insights into Netflix’s forthcoming film adaptation of the renowned mecha franchise. Centineo characterized the narrative as a “non-Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet” unfolding within the Universal Century timeline.

The Universal Century (U.C.) timeline serves as the primary setting for numerous Gundam productions, marking it as the franchise’s inaugural timeline. Notable works set in this era include the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam, Char’s Counterattack, and the Hathaway’s flash series, among others.

Centineo did not disclose the specific point within the timeline where Netflix’s live-action Gundam film is positioned, nor did he confirm the inclusion of any familiar characters. Nevertheless, he echoed a 2025 statement from Legendary Pictures indicating that the story would center on Sydney Sweeney’s character and explore the relationship between two lovers divided by an ongoing conflict, with the opposing factions likely being the Earth Federation Forces and the Principality of Zeon.

Noah Centineo is widely recognized for his portrayal of Peter Kavinsky in Netflix’s To All the Boys series. However, gamers and anime enthusiasts may soon become familiar with him through his roles in the Gundam movie and as Ken Masters in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter film.

The release of Netflix’s live-action Gundam movie is scheduled for sometime in 2027.
