South Korean developer IGGYMOB revealed on April 27 that it has secured the rights to Red Entertainment’s Gungrave franchise. Working alongside the series’ original creator Yasuhiro Nightow, the studio aims to broaden the franchise’s reach across multiple platforms and media formats.
IGGYMOB already has experience with the Gungrave universe, having contributed to 2017’s Gungrave VR—a virtual reality prelude to 2022’s Gungrave G.O.R.E, which the studio also crafted. Currently in development is Gungrave G.O.R.E: Blood Heat, a remake of the third-person shooter built using Unreal Engine 5, and it is expected to be the first Gungrave project completed under the new ownership.
The Gungrave narrative centers on Grave, a famed Deadman gunslinger, as he wages war against the criminal organization Millennion and its leader, Harry MacDowell, his former closest ally. Armed with twin Cerberus pistols and the imposing Death Hauler coffin, Grave delivers a brutal campaign of vengeance.
Beyond gaming, Gungrave was adapted into a 2002 anime series by Madhouse. The franchise’s emotionally charged storytelling paired with its high-octane action has cultivated a dedicated following eager to see what IGGYMOB and Nightow will unveil next. An official brand site is slated for launch soon, offering further details on the studio’s vision for the franchise.
Gungrave G.O.R.E: Blood Heat is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows (Steam).
