Hideki Kamiya, the creative mind behind the original Resident Evil and the director of its remake, recently took a moment to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary, marveling at how far the series has come since it first launched his career in gaming. He lauded Capcom’s development team for their dedication and, in his signature humorous fashion, playfully requested the inclusion of a non-intimidating mode in future titles.

Despite Kamiya’s well-documented aversion to horror games, fans have persistently urged him to helm a new Resident Evil installment, ideally one that explores the matured adventures of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. “You could even make all the adversaries resemble tofu or something,” one ardent supporter quipped.

Although Kamiya declined the notion of crafting a survival horror experience, he surprised followers with an elaborate vision for a laid-back, everyday Resident Evil game centered around a retired Leon.

“If I were to create it,” he mused, “it would depict a retired Leon embracing rural life—fishing, foraging for wild greens, baking bread, strolling with his dog, tending his garden, making a 50-kilometer trek to the nearest store, hosting barbecues with old pals, repairing his elderly neighbor’s oven, and selling homemade lemonade at the local festival. Would that still interest you?”

Kamiya’s audience responded with an overwhelming affirmation, with Japanese commenters expressing enthusiasm for a “Resident Evil Pokopia” and the general sentiment of witnessing Leon finally savor a tranquil existence after his tumultuous journey.

Encouraged by the favorable feedback, Kamiya playfully addressed Capcom once more, stating, “Capcom, it seems there’s a significant demand for a Resident not-Evil game of this nature. Should you ever find the time, please give it some consideration… I’d enjoy playing it too…”
