Koei Tecmo Games has unveiled an unannounced project, tentatively named FUJI, through an official listing of initiatives chosen by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) for the “IP360” program.

IP360 is a government-backed scheme introduced in March 2026, designed to foster the creation of fresh intellectual properties within Japan’s prominent cultural exports, including video games, manga, and anime. The initiative offers financial aid and resources to support the development of original IPs or their global outreach, with the objective of bolstering Japan’s domestic content sector.

The latest METI publication outlines the companies approved for IP360 subsidies to date, with certain entries detailing specific projects. Koei Tecmo Games is among those selected, as per the document, to receive backing for “the development of the new game FUJI (working title).”

While specifics about the game remain limited, its description highlights it as a brand-new IP that will capitalize on Koei Tecmo’s proficiency in “Oriental-style aesthetics and action games.” The studio aims to achieve a “worldwide hit and broad IP expansion” driven by the game itself.

The terms “oriental aesthetics” and “action” evoke thoughts of Koei Tecmo’s established franchises like Dynasty Warriors, Wo Long, and Rise of the Ronin. However, as FUJI is set to be a fresh franchise, the upcoming title could explore uncharted territory.

In addition to Koei Tecmo, other leading Japanese game developers such as Konami, Square Enix, and Sega have also been selected for METI’s IP360 initiative.
