During a live stream held this Saturday, author Sankaku Head surprised his followers by announcing the launch of Umaru-chan 100, a new installment that will expand the adventures of the popular manga Himouto! Umaru-chan starting October 1st.

The news took the community by surprise, especially considering the pace changes the author has had in his career recently. Sankaku Head had revealed a few months ago his decision to step away from the exhausting pace of weekly publications to focus on raising his children and care for his health, shifting to a monthly work format. However, the affection for the hamster girl seems stronger, opening this new chapter to delight readers.

The franchise already has an extensive history of derivative works that have explored the lives of its secondary characters, including titles like Akita Imokko! Ebina-chan, Himouto! Umaru-chan S, Himouto! Umaru-chan SS, and the direct sequel Himouto! Umaru-chan G. This new project aims to reconnect with the series’ cheerful spirit while the author concludes his other current work, Boku no Manamusume, which is planned to end in 2027.

Himouto! Umaru-chan is a daily life comedy written and illustrated by Sankaku Head, which began its publication in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2013 and concluded its main story in 2017, collected in twelve volumes. The plot follows the two sides of Umaru Doma, a high school girl who appears as a perfect, beautiful, and talented student to the outside world, but transforms into a chibi lover of video games, sweets, and complete leisure who depends entirely on her patient older brother, Taihei.

The work’s huge charisma earned it an anime adaptation produced by studio Doga Kobo that premiered in July 2015 with twelve episodes, followed by an acclaimed second season titled Himouto! Umaru-chan R aired at the end of 2017, solidifying Umaru as an icon of modern otaku culture.
