Unfortunately, the darker side of the internet claims another victim in Japan’s entertainment industry. Voice Kit agency confirmed it filed a formal complaint with police after receiving malicious emails with terrifying threats targeting voice actress Sumire Uesaka.

Alarms were raised mid-September when the artist’s management revealed they were receiving hostile messages. The severity escalated immediately upon confirmation that the emails contained explicit warnings of kidnapping and death, with a deadline set for September 27. The aggressors claimed to know the seiyuu’s exact home address and threatened to abduct her near her residence.

Due to the dangerous nature of the threats, the agency immediately reported the case to the local police station to launch an official investigation. On September 24, Voice Kit issued an update confirming the formal victim report was filed. To avoid hindering the investigation or compromising digital evidence, the company asked fans not to speculate online or attempt to trace the involved accounts independently.

As a precaution to ensure the interpreter’s physical and mental safety, it was decided to indefinitely pause her personal social media activities. Additionally, the artist had to cancel her scheduled appearances at the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2026, where she was set to be one of the festival’s main ambassadors.

Sumire Uesaka is one of Japan’s most beloved and prominent voice actresses and singers. Throughout her brilliant career, she has voiced extremely popular characters, notably her lead role as Hayase Nagatoro in the romantic comedy Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro (Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san), along with characters in major animation franchises and video games.
