The masterminds behind the katanas

For an action manga that thrives on brutal choreography, the choice of the technical team is everything. The production committee, led by giants Shochiku and CyberAgent (who had already sparked rumors in 2024), entrusted the animation to Studio Cypic. As for the voice cast, the initial announcement decided to keep the mystery about the antagonists and limited itself to introducing the actor who will take on the heaviest role in the franchise:

  • Taihi Kimura as Chihiro Rokuhira.

The young actor takes on the monumental challenge of voicing the dark and stoic protagonist, marking a before and after in his acting career.

The project will be helmed by Tetsuya Takeuchi, a director with vast experience as a key animator in modern action titans. Joining him is the experienced Keigo Sasaki in character design, who will have the complex task of translating Hokazono’s distinctive torn and dark art into impeccable television fluidity.

The phenomenon that conquered Weekly Shonen Jump

The rise of this title is a true case study. Since its debut in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023, the work not only became a viral phenomenon internationally but backed its momentum on social media with a solid story. Currently, the manga has surpassed the impressive milestone of 3 million copies in circulation.

Critically, the Japanese industry has bowed to it. It topped the print category of the Next Manga Awards 2024, followed by prestigious nominations in the Shogakukan Manga Awards, the Kodansha Manga Awards, and even a Western nod in the 2025 Eisner Awards. Today, it is undeniable that we are facing one of the pillars of the new generation of modern shonen.

The bloody path of Chihiro

If you haven’t delved into this dark tale of swords and witchcraft, the premise will captivate you from the first strike. The story follows Chihiro Rokuhira, a serious and focused young man who spends all his days tirelessly training under the watchful eye of his father, revered as the most talented katana forger in the entire country. Chihiro lives with the simple dream of inheriting his father’s hammer and creating masterpieces.

Both believed their peaceful days filled with family jokes would last forever. However, a bloody tragedy orchestrated by lethal magic users shatters that future in a single night. Now, without family or home, Chihiro and a mysterious katana forged with supernatural powers will be driven by a single dark purpose: to exact relentless revenge on all the witches responsible for their pain.
