Bandai Namco Filmworks has revealed that the Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO anime (pronounced “Alex Zero”) is set to debut in April 2027. The series will be available in North America and Japan, with additional regions to be announced later. Fresh stills from the anime have been released alongside the news.
XARX-ZERO is part of a multi-media initiative (dubbed “RG Project”), unfolding in a fresh post-apocalyptic Gundam setting that serves as a prequel to the forthcoming action game Gundam Rogue Orbit.
This new universe was crafted by sci-fi director and writer Kenji Kamiyama – renowned for his work on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – in collaboration with author Toh EnJoe. The narrative centers on Ray Azumi, a war orphan who mans the Gundam Zero, within the new After Apocalypse (A.A) timeline.
The tale is set decades after an extraterrestrial object bestowed humanity with groundbreaking technologies, only to morph into a self-replicating ecosystem so perilous it was dubbed the “Apocalypse.” With humanity forced to flee Earth, a new epoch began, where generations grew up in a world constantly threatened by the Apocalypse.
Mobile Suit Gundam RG XARX-ZERO is slated for an April 2027 premiere.
