If you ever thought your love life was a complete mess, wait to see the protagonists of this new franchise. Publisher Kadokawa has just surprised us by releasing the first video trailer for Ms. Isshiki Wants to Know About Love (Isshiki-san wa Koi o Shiritai). This promising animated project confirms that romantic comedies will continue to dominate the lineup, setting its major premiere for the competitive winter season in January 2027.
The story follows Isshiki Rinna Milford, an elite police officer, extremely strict and professional, who joined the security forces at the incredible age of 17. However, despite her brilliant intellect and impeccable work record, she has never experienced even the slightest trace of romantic love. Her path crosses with Meishi Rokutanda, a kind-hearted detective but incredibly clueless and incompetent in his job. Realizing they are both complete novices in matters of the heart, they decide to form a strange sort of trial couple to learn, stumble, and discover together what romance truly means, all while trying to survive the demanding world of criminal investigation.
To bring these two officers to lifeβexcellent at catching criminals but terrible at catching hintsβthe Sakura Create studio already has its main talents in the recording booth. The confirmed cast for this peculiar duo is as follows:
- Riko Akechi as Isshiki Rinna Milford.
An up-and-coming voice actress taking on the challenge of portraying our elite officer inexperienced in romance. - Shuichiro Umeda as Meishi Rokutanda.
The beloved Akira Tendo in Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead and Izumi Broca in Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie.

Behind the scenes, the project is backed by director Kazuya Komai (who worked on classics like Tenjho Tenge), while the real guarantee comes from Deko Akao supervising the scripts. Given that she was responsible for adapting the wonderful interactions in Komi Can’t Communicate and Noragami, we can be sure that the development of this strange relationship will be well-crafted. Additionally, character designs are by Shohei Hamaguchi, ensuring the contrast between the protagonist’s straight-laced nature and her partner’s clumsiness shines on screen.
Will you give this police romance a chance, or do you prefer classic high school stories?
