Mushoku Tensei dominates and becomes the best anime of summer 2026

The third season of Rudeus Greyrat dominated searches and interactions on social media.

When a franchise has the community eating out of its hand, the numbers don’t lie. The analysis group Anime Data Insight Lab, part of the Bushiroad giant, presented the official results of the 2026 Summer Anime Awards, an evaluation based on tracking real data from 73 series aired during the summer season in Japan. After measuring the volume of Google searches and social media conversation over ten weeks, the verdict was clear: the third season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation crushed the competition and won the Grand Prize for summer.

The study measured popularity by combining internet search frequency with the number of posts generated by fans. With an impressive combined score of 73.9 points, Rudeus Greyrat’s return had no rival. The series hit the highest search volume of the summer from its first episode and also placed third in consistent social media conversation.

The awards also recognized other surprising productions. The comedy Yani Neko won the big surprise award after tripling its popularity in just its second week, recording the season’s biggest growth. Meanwhile, the new adaptation of THE GHOST IN THE SHELL took the award for most media attention, generating twice as many news articles as any other anime thanks to its music theme announcements and international presentations.

The best debut award for a completely new work went to Tenmaku no Jaadugar, surpassing any non-sequel premiere in its first week. The studio’s musical franchise, BanG Dream! YUME∞MITA, claimed the most passionate community award, showing the highest and most consistent interaction among original projects. Interestingly, the new installment of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War hit the highest weekly conversation peak of summer during its fifth week but missed the awards for airing only seven episodes in the analyzed period.

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is a light novel series written by Rifujin na Magonote and illustrated by Shirotaka, considered by many as the mother of modern isekai genre. The story follows a 34-year-old unemployed man who, after being hit by a truck, reincarnates in a fantasy world as Rudeus Greyrat, keeping his past life memories and determined not to repeat his mistakes and live his new chance to the fullest.

The anime adaptation is by Studio Bind, created specifically to animate this franchise with outstanding visual and narrative quality. After the massive success of previous seasons, the third season once again solidified the work as the gold standard in Japanese fantasy television.

Do you agree that the third season of Mushoku Tensei was the best thing summer had to offer?
