In a recent interview with ASCII Japan celebrating the upcoming release of Trails In The Sky 2nd Chapter, Nihon Falcom president and CEO Toshihiro Kondo discussed the studio’s future plans, covering both remakes and new mainline titles.
Fans are eager to know if Trails in the Sky the 3rd will receive the same full 3D remake treatment as its predecessors. Kondo stated that while the company has not officially decided, he personally believes remaking the game would be nearly impossible to pass up.
“In fact, around the time we were wrapping up work on 2nd, the staff started asking me, ‘Can we start working on the 3rd yet?’ That’s how motivated everyone is internally, so I definitely want to do it at some point,” he explains.
At the same time, Kondo acknowledges the community’s anticipation for new mainline Trails games. Regarding the ongoing Calvard arc, he notes that Nihon Falcom “can’t afford to drag things out any longer.” Consequently, the studio is working towards making an announcement to fans as soon as possible.

Additionally, Kondo reiterated his intention to conclude the Calvard story arc sooner rather than later. “I know players are going to say, ‘That’s just the president saying he’s gonna wrap it up’ (laughs). But since the previous game ended right when the story was really heating up, I’d like to give it some kind of resolution in the next one.”
As for the Trails series overall, Kondo confirmed that the plan to enter the series’ “final stage” once the Calvard arc is finished remains unchanged. However, the team currently only has a general concept for this phase. “Nothing has been definitively decided in terms of exactly how we’ll proceed,” Kondo says.
