Just five days after the inaugural Omega Phenex Commenced Project Six open beta launched on Steam, indie developer Surume Kobo shared that 45,000 Pilots have already taken part in the playtest. Additionally, Steam Wishlists have seen a surge of approximately 40,000, pushing the cumulative total to 100,000.

Slated for a 2027 release, Omega Phenex’s dynamic movement and combat draw significant inspiration from FromSoftware’s Armored Core series. Players assume the role of a pilot controlling the highly agile and customizable Icarus mech, soaring through the skies in either first- or third-person perspective while engaging enemy forces with diverse ranged weapons, including an unlockable close-quarters Laser Blade. The mech’s boost gauge enables rapid traversal across the battlefield and evasive maneuvers against enemy fire, refilling at a steady pace to maintain fluid combat. The game offers support for both mouse and keyboard controls as well as gamepads.

Like Armored Core, the Icarus mech’s performance can be altered by swapping its components. From basic color schemes to weaponry and armor plates, players have the freedom to design a mech that aligns with their preferred aesthetic and gameplay style. However, unlike Armored Core, the Tune mechanic plays a central role in determining the mech’s capabilities; this system allows players to invest in-game currency into upgrading attributes such as speed, health, and weapon effectiveness.

For those who gain access to the Omega Phenex beta, it’s recommended to complete the feedback survey. This input from the community aids the two-person team—comprising Surume Kobo, who handles all core development, and an operations manager—in refining the game through upcoming updates and enhancements before its official launch.

The Omega Phenex Commenced Project Six open beta will remain available until June 25, while the full game is scheduled for a 2027 release on Windows via Steam. Should the PC iteration prove successful, ports for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch are under consideration.
