The author of Kamisama Kiss will have another anime, now with a vampire otaku

Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite confirms its animated adaptation with a first trailer featuring a vampire obsessed with her favorite character.

Imagine being locked in your room for thirty years watching anime and, upon leaving, encountering someone identical to your favorite husbando. It seems even vampires aren’t immune to such situations. It was officially announced that Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite will get an anime adaptation, based on the manga by Julietta Suzuki, the renowned author of Kamisama Kiss. The announcement came with a first trailer and promotional image, though a release date has not yet been confirmed.

The illustration shows Hina, the protagonist of this quirky romantic comedy, happily resting in her coffin surrounded by merchandise of her favorite character. She even holds a blood bag, as she considers it unhygienic to drink directly from humans. The trailer uses illustrations from the original manga to introduce the characters and some situations they will experience.

A vampire otaku who might fall in love with her husbando

The story follows Hina, a vampire who spent thirty years locked in her room and finally decides to move to Japan to fully enjoy her otaku life. Her obsession began after discovering Vampire Cross, a fictional anime whose character, Mao, became the love of her life. Like any dedicated fan, Hina is willing to do almost anything for her beloved character.

However, things get complicated when she meets Kyuta Amanatsu, her new neighbor, an attractive and somewhat foul-mouthed boy who is practically identical to Mao. Finding a flesh-and-blood version of her husbando is already surprising, but Kyuta also has special blood that attracts vampires from around the world.

Thus begins a cohabitation where Hina must deal with her feelings for Kyuta, while other vampires appear aiming to get his blood. The problem is that our protagonist isn’t even sure if she’s truly falling in love with him or if she’s just confusing romance with her obsession with fictional characters. Considering she’s spent three decades locked away consuming anime, she’ll likely struggle to find the answer.

It’s worth noting that Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite, known in Japan as Oshi ni Amagami, began as a self-contained story published in April 2022, before starting serialization in November of the same year in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine. The manga currently has ten compiled volumes, with the eleventh set to arrive in Japanese bookstores on November 20.

Julietta Suzuki is especially known for Kamisama Kiss (Kamisama Hajimemashita), a supernatural romantic comedy published between 2008 and 2016, which received two anime seasons. She is also responsible for works like Detective Koko Is Melancholy, so romance stories with peculiar characters are not new to her repertoire.

For now, the animation studio and voice cast have not been revealed for this new adaptation. There is also no confirmed release window, so we’ll have to wait for future announcements to find out when we can see the romantic misadventures of this otaku vampire.

Would you like to meet someone identical to your waifu or husbando, or do you think it’s better to keep fictional romances separate from real life?
