Manga creator and film visionary Katsuhiro Otomo, celebrated for his work on the original AKIRA manga and its 1988 animated film adaptation, has founded OVAL GEAR Animation Studio, a new production venture operating under Oval Gear Co. Ltd.
This fresh studio was established with the mission to preserve and pass on the “filmmaking techniques and artistic sensibilities Katsuhiro Otomo has honed over decades” to upcoming creators, alongside producing original animated projects for worldwide audiences. A new endeavor by Otomo is already in development at the studio, with more details expected to be announced via the official homepage and X account.
Alongside the studio’s introduction, OVAL GEAR Animation Studio has revealed plans to begin recruiting animators and production personnel, extending opportunities to both emerging artists and seasoned industry veterans.
