Supernatural comedies with compromising situations always find their place in summer. On Tuesday, April 28, the official website for the TV anime adaptation of the manga Kamui-san Directly Behind You (Ushiro no Shomen Kamui-san) opened to reveal its first official trailer and a new promotional image. The project confirmed its main cast and set its anticipated July 2026 premiere.

The unique voices behind the exorcisms

For a comedy of this style, the production committee assembled a veteran cast, led by one of Japan’s most iconic humor voice actors. Here are the talents bringing this quirky group to life:

Gintoki Sakata in Gintama and Joseph Joestar in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

• Riko Aono as the unlucky Shizuka Mimitsuka.

The team behind the purifications

Animation is handled by Zero-G and ZG-R, under the meticulous direction of Takumi Tsukumo. Scripts are supervised by Motofumi Nakajo, while appealing character designs are adapted by Toshinari Yamashita. Notably, the series will have two different sound directors: Shuhei Abe for the standard TV version and Nankai-Teio for the uncensored Deregula label version, hinting at the work’s tone.

What makes this psychic so peculiar?

Based on the successful manga by Eroki and illustrated by Shinko Konoshiro, the story follows Shizuka, a high school girl with terrible luck who can see ghosts and is easily possessed by malevolent spirits. To deal with her problem, she’s hired as an assistant (and often a human lure) by Kamui, an outrageously handsome and highly skilled psychic who uses peculiar, perverse, and unorthodox exorcism methods. Together, they must cleanse their city of supernatural entities while Shizuka tries to survive both constant possessions and her boss’s embarrassing purification methods.
