With Resident Evil Requiem offering players the option to select between a third-person and first-person viewpoint when controlling Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft, the game’s default settings place Leon’s chapters in third person and Grace’s in first person. In a conversation with Denfaminicogamer following the game’s launch, director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa disclosed that most players stuck with the preset perspectives.

Nakanishi shared that data collected one month after Requiem’s release showed roughly 90% of players opted for third-person gameplay during their initial playthrough of Leon’s action-heavy segments. For Grace’s horror-centric episodes, the split was more even, with 60% adhering to the default first-person mode and 40% switching to third person.

Regional and platform preferences also emerged in the findings. Players in Japan and other Asian territories showed a stronger inclination toward third-person gameplay, while PC gamers were more likely to favor first-person perspectives.

These preliminary results echo observations made during Resident Evil Requiem’s public demo. Developers noted that player viewpoint choices may correlate with gaming backgrounds, suggesting Western players influenced by first-person shooters like Doom and Japanese players accustomed to third-person RPGs such as Dragon Quest. While not universally applicable, this insight offers valuable context for the Resident Evil series.

Resident Evil Requiem is accessible on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Windows (Steam).
