Daisuke Namikawa, Japanese voice of Choso, launches an AI service

Tired of cyber theft, the legendary actor decided to commercialize his own voice.

The anime industry has been scared for months by the imminent technological advancement, but someone just played the best trump card possible. The legendary seiyuu Daisuke Namikawa, world-renowned for voicing Choso in the successful Jujutsu Kaisen franchise, has officially launched a dialogue generation service powered by an AI trained exclusively with his own vocal cords.

Namikawa’s surprising decision wasn’t born simply out of love for innovation, but from genuine frustration. Tired of seeing unauthorized identity impersonations and cloned voices of his work flood the internet, the actor decided to fight fire with fire. His main goal is to commercialize his voice legally to protect his copyrights, ensure fair profit distribution, and guarantee his own economic stability in an uncertain future. Basically, he found the perfect way to monetize his own cyber replacement.

To understand the huge impact of this move, remember that Namikawa was one of the main faces of the “No More Unauthorized Generative AI” initiative early in 2024, which sought to stop the unauthorized use of Japanese actors in generative models. However, seeing that the tech wave was inevitable, he opted for a completely proactive approach. By creating an official, licensed alternative, any creative or company interested in using the iconic voices of characters like Hisoka in Hunter x Hunter, Ulquiorra Cifer in Bleach, Toru Oikawa in Haikyu!!, or Eustass Kid in One Piece, can do so under his own terms, knowing the money goes directly to the original actor.

Knowing automation is an unstoppable force in modern entertainment, do you think other Japanese voice actors will copy this brilliant financial strategy or continue resisting renting their digital identity?
