Following Mages’ decision to push Steins;Gate Re:Boot from 2025 to 2026, the company has now pinpointed August 20 as the gameโ€™s latest projected launch date. The reboot retains elements of the original, including 2010 otaku slang and Akihabara culture, while introducing fresh enhancements such as redrawn visuals, an updated UI, remastered music by original composer Takeshi Abo, a new seventh ending, and expanded character animations using the E-mote animation tool.

The character animations in the 2009 version of Steins;Gate were relatively basic, relying on subtle mouth movements to suggest speech and sprite changes to convey gestures. Although this approach had its own appeal, the upcoming reboot features notably smoother animations and transitions between expressions, giving the movements a nearly โ€œVTuberโ€-like quality.

From the nuanced shifts in each characterโ€™s facial expressions to blinking and hair movement, Mages aimed to โ€œbring characters to lifeโ€ and โ€œelevate immersion in the story to new heights.โ€ While the original game holds its charm, characters like Kurisu and Mayuri in the reboot appear particularly vivid thanks to their new animations and redesigns. This is especially noticeable during interactions between characters.

Steins;Gate Re:Boot is scheduled to release on August 20 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
