The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore novels confirm their anime for 2027

After years of waiting and an old film project that fell through, fans of mystery and literature finally have reason to celebrate. On Wednesday, April 22, publisher Kadokawa officially announced that the successful mystery novel series written by En Mikami, The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore (Biblia Koshodo no Jiken Techo), will receive a TV anime adaptation. The announcement came with a teaser and promotional images, confirming the series will air in 2027, produced by CloverWorks.

The voices and talent behind the counter

To capture the quiet yet intriguing atmosphere of the work, the production committee has assembled a top-tier creative team. Director Mamoru Kanbe (The Perfect Insider, Sound of the Sky) will lead the project, supported by scripts by Toshiya Ono and character designs by Jun Nakai. As for the voices bringing the unique booksellers to life, the announcement revealed the two main protagonists:

  • Riko Akechi as Shioriko Shinokawa.

The actress will voice the introverted but brilliant owner of the bookstore.

  • Shunsuke Takeuchi as Daisuke Gora.

The acclaimed seiyuu (Brawler in Akudama Drive, Einar in Vinland Saga) will portray the burly assistant who gets dizzy reading books.

A literary legacy with previous adaptations

The franchise has an impressive history since publishing its first volume in 2011 with illustrations by Hagu Koshijima. With over 6.4 million copies sold and multiple nominations for Japanese mystery literary awards, the Biblia story already saw success with an 11-episode live-action drama in 2013 and a film in 2018. Although a promised animated film in 2017 never materialized, this new TV project marks the saga’s triumphant entry into the anime world, supported by three successful manga adaptations.

What secrets hide in this quaint Kamakura bookstore?

Away from bloody crimes, this story transports us to a quiet corner of Kamakura. There lies the antique bookstore “Biblia,” run by Shioriko Shinokawa, a highly shy young woman with an encyclopedic knowledge of antique books. Her life changes when she hires Daisuke Gora as her protector and physical assistant, a boy with a strange condition that causes severe dizziness whenever he tries to read a book.

Together, they form an unlikely duo dedicated to solving gentle but profound mysteries. Through customers bringing old volumes to the store, Shioriko uses clues in the pages, dedications, and bindings to unravel the hidden stories of their previous owners, revealing surprising truths that go far beyond simple commercial transactions.
